Shan Wan Ran Hakka Glove Puppetry Troupe

The Shan Wan Ran Troupe was founded by Huang Wushan in 2002. From a young age, he apprenticed under Mr. Li Tianlu, a national treasure-level master of glove puppetry, learning traditional glove puppetry techniques from his two sons, teachers Chen Xihuang and Li Chuancan. In 2003, he graduated from the National Taipei University of the Arts with a focus on Theatre Arts. He also understood the painstaking efforts of his teachers in passing down traditions and learned Hakka mountain songs from Teacher Lai Bixia, the 'Queen of Hakka Mountain Songs,' integrating Hakka culture into traditional glove puppetry. He has since become one of the few younger generation artists in the country who possesses both professional traditional glove puppetry performance skills and a strong foundation in theatrical academic theory, keeping the flame alive for traditional glove puppetry.
