Visitor Essentials

Xindian is home to two mountains named Lion's Head Mountain. One, known as Shizitou Mountain, is located in the mountainous area at the source of Huangku Stream, at the border of Xindian and Sanxia, and serves as a first-order triangulation station on the southern side of Greater Taipei. The other Lion's Head Mountain is situated next to Bitan and is referred to by hikers as Little Lion Mountain. Little Lion Mountain, along with Shilin Zhishan Cultural and Ecological Garden, is among the few mountainous areas that have been protected since the Qing Dynasty and Japanese colonial period. Consequently, tall trees are abundant, preserving the pristine appearance and tranquility of an original forest. Nearby, a towering and exquisitely beautiful Ficus nervosa with large buttress roots stands impressively, a sight to behold. The 'plant apartment' on the Philippine Fig is teeming with various epiphytes and climbing plants, resembling a natural masterpiece. Along the path to the left of the Plum Blossom Lion Pavilion, one can also observe the unique sight of tree roots embracing boulders.
