Wanggu Station

Wanggu belongs to an area in Pingxi that was developed relatively late. During the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty, Hu Jie, a native of Quanzhou, Fujian, came here to cultivate the land. The mine pit was submerged by a great flood, causing countless casualties, which led to its name 'Mine of Death' (亡礦坑). During the Japanese colonial period, due to the inauspicious name, it was renamed 'Wanggu Pit' (望古坑). In 1972, a flag stop was established to transport Qinghe Coal Mine, initially named Qinghe Station. As the mining industry declined, the bustling scene of miners coming and going gradually disappeared, fading into the lush mountain forests. Today, occasional travelers who disembark here come to find Wanggu Waterfall.
