Sanxia Dyeing Workshop & Indigo Dyeing Center

Sanxia Minquan Street, formerly known as Sanjiaoyong Street, was a hub for the dyeing industry in Sanxia during the Qing Dynasty. Local dye workshops flourished for a time. Today, Sanxia Minquan Street still preserves many of the buildings from that era, with the characters '染坊' (dye workshop) carved into their outer walls, creating a fascinating and historically rich landscape. However, indigo dyeing began to decline during the Japanese colonial period with the rise in popularity of Western suits and kimonos, and has been largely forgotten for decades. To prevent the indigo dyeing culture from disappearing, the Sanjiaoyong Culture and Arts Association guided the establishment of the Sanxia Dyeing Workshop, dedicated to preserving and promoting indigo dyeing culture.
