Visitor Essentials

The ferry service on the Xindian River began in 1881, the 7th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign. There were originally nine ferry crossings from the upper to middle reaches of the Xindian River, and Xindian Ferry is the only remaining hand-operated ferry crossing today. In early days, Xindian Ferry was the sole transportation hub in Xindian for accessing mountainous areas such as Wantan, Zhitam, Tutam, and Ququ. After roads were successively opened, this area gradually became a popular spot for weekend leisure and tourism. Residents or visitors taking the ferry to Wantan can not only reminisce about the past but also enjoy the pleasure of light boats by the waterfront amidst the beautiful scenery of Bitan.
