Visitor Essentials

Tada Eikichi's Former Residence is located halfway up the Puding hill, facing south with a hillside behind it and a steep retaining wall in front. The elevated site offers a panoramic view of the Tamsui River banks and the beautiful scenery of Mount Guanyin. The original location of the building served as an academic field for the Xuehai Academy during the Qing Dynasty. Its current address is No. 19 Mackay Street, close to the Tamsui Library, the Little White House, and Wenhua Elementary School. The architecture exudes a strong Japanese aesthetic and was also the first private residence in Taiwan equipped with running water. This not only held groundbreaking significance for the development of Taiwan's water supply system at the time but also represents one of the most historically valuable features of this house.
