Hobe Waterworks

During the Japanese colonial period, to address Taiwan's tap water issues, the Japanese government hired British engineer William K. Burton in 1896 to serve as a hygienic engineering consultant for the Taiwan Governor-General's Office. He was responsible for the design and construction of water treatment plants. The current "Shuangjuntou Tamsui Water Treatment Plant" is Taiwan's first water treatment plant. It features a classical stone archway inscribed with "Hobe Water Source". After more than a century, the water in the aqueduct remains crystal clear and continues to provide a steady supply of water to the Tamsui area.
