The area around Tamsui MRT Station was formerly known as 'Bí-á-thâu'. After Tamsui opened as a port, Western-style buildings and foreign trading houses sprung up. In addition to the five major trading houses – Boyd & Co., Tait & Co., Shui Lu Trading House, Hutchison & Co., and Dent & Co. – Carlowitz & Co. was also among them. The oil storage warehouse and tanks of Shell Company, located at what is now No. 22 Bitou Street, were formerly the 'warehouse of the British trading firm Carlowitz & Co.'. It is now used by the 'Tamsui Culture Foundation' and 'Tamsui Community College'.
