During the Xianfeng era of the Qing Dynasty, commerce flourished in Dadaocheng, east of the Tamsui River, which simultaneously spurred the development of Sanchongpu. Sanchongpu refers to the present-day Sanchong District and Luzhou District of New Taipei City. Sanchong had always been subordinate to rural Luzhou until 1947, when it officially separated from Luzhou.
