Zhonghe Ruishui Water Distribution Reservoir

Zhonghe District was an area inhabited by indigenous peoples in its early days. It wasn't until the 6th year of Qianlong (1741), when Minnan and Hakka Han Chinese migrated to Taiwan for reclamation and settlement, that records of Han Chinese villages began to appear. After Japan began its rule over Taiwan in Meiji 28 (1895), to improve water quality and fulfill the demands for coal washing and refining from the "Yamamoto Coal Mine" in the Haishan area, construction of the Banqiao Waterworks commenced in Showa 3 (1928), with water supply beginning the following year.
