Huliaotan

When visiting Pinglin, besides buying tea leaves and enjoying tea-infused meals, consider venturing into the mountains and walking across a suspension bridge to admire Huliaotan's dog-tooth terrain. This terrain is formed when rock strata are compressed, tilted, and uplifted. Under the erosion of the Beishi River, the weaker shale disintegrates, leaving behind jagged sandstone that resembles a dog's teeth, hence its name. With the construction of the Feitsui Reservoir upstream on the Beishi River, many dog-tooth formations have been submerged. However, by visiting Huliaotan and standing on the Huliaotan Suspension Bridge, you can still marvel at the magnificent dog-tooth terrain.
