Guanyin Terrace

Located on the hilltop behind Pinglin Junior High School, this site was originally home to a Shinto shrine during the Japanese colonial period before being rebuilt as Guanyin Terrace. Accessible by a walking trail, Guanyin Terrace stands 40 feet tall. In the center of a landscaped circular plaza with a diameter of 21 meters, the sacred statue of Guanyin is situated. Including its lotus pedestal, the statue is approximately 11 meters high, facing the layered mountain ranges to the south, symbolizing the everlasting protection and prosperity of its people. It is not only a local landmark in Pinglin but also the tallest bronze Guanyin statue in northern Taiwan. As you ascend and descend the mountain via the Guanyin Terrace trail, Guanyin Terrace faces "Siyuan Terrace" and gazes across at the Tea Goddess Mazu, collectively protecting the tea-growing region's residents. Since visitors have already come this far, it's worth walking a bit more to get some exercise. From here, you can also see the Northern Cross-Island Highway and the Xueshan Tunnel, offering superb views!
