Visitor Essentials
The Bitan Suspension Bridge is situated in the middle reaches of the Xindian River, constructed in 1937 (the 26th year of the Republic of China). It is a double-tower, double-hinged, single-span suspension bridge, measuring 186.6 meters in length, 3.5 meters in width, and standing 30 meters above sea level. With a capacity for approximately 1,000 people, it is a well-known tourist attraction in Xindian District. The area is named Bitan (meaning 'Emerald Lake') due to the clear, emerald-green color of the river. In earlier times, travel between the two banks of Bitan primarily relied on ferries. After its completion, the Bitan Suspension Bridge not only became a crucial link between Zhonghe and Xindian but also, thanks to its elegant and distinctive design, has, decades later, evolved into the scenic highlight of the Bitan Scenic Area and an iconic landmark for Xindian District.
