In 1867 (the 6th year of the Tongzhi reign of the Qing Dynasty), Lian Xuchun, a descendant of Lian Yuanqiao, traveled to Fuzhou to take the imperial provincial examination and successfully passed as a juren in the Bingzi examination cycle. He was the first juren from Shuangxi District, which led to his residence being respectfully named 'Juren's House.' Liu Mingdeng, an imperial envoy appointed by the Qing court as a Grand Commandant and Garrison Commander, visited Kavalan (present-day Yilan). While passing through Dingshuangxi, he even made a special visit to the house.
