Jiufen, once rich in gold mines, earned the beautiful title of 'Golden Mountain City.' Its settlement thrived with the influx of gold prospectors but later quieted down after the decline of gold mining. In the late 1980s, the film 'A City of Sadness' chose Jiufen as a filming location, showcasing its beautiful mountains and sea, vintage architecture, and unique hillside scenery on the big screen. This transformed Jiufen into a charming mountain town that captivates both domestic and international visitors.
