Wusheng Temple

The Wusheng Temple in Xinzhuang District, New Taipei City, has been designated as a New Taipei City cultural asset. Xinzhuang Wusheng Temple, along with Ciyou Temple and Guangfu Temple, is known as one of the three major temples of Xinzhuang. It was founded in the 25th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1760 AD) by Hu Zhuoyou, a gongsheng (tribute student) from Tingzhou, who donated the temple land on Xinzhuang Rice Market Street. According to Lien Heng's (1878-1936) 'General History of Taiwan,' 'Xinzhuang Wusheng Temple was initiated in Xinzhuang, Xingzhi Fort, in the 25th year of Emperor Qianlong's reign (1760 AD) by gongsheng Hu Zhuoyou, dedicated to Guan Yu, Marquis of Hanshou Ting.' From this, it can be concluded that Xinzhuang Wusheng Temple was built earlier than Hsinchu Guandi Temple, making Xinzhuang Wusheng Temple the earliest 'Guandi Temple' in the northern region, and locally known as 'Guandi-jun Temple'.
