Ciyou Temple is the oldest temple in Xinzhuang. It is believed to have been founded in the 25th year of Kangxi (1686 AD). During its renovation in the 9th year of Yongzheng (1731 AD), it was renamed 'Ciyou Temple'. It is also commonly referred to as 'Xinzhuang Mazu Temple' by the general public. Subsequent renovations took place during the reigns of Qianlong, Jiaqing, Xianfeng, Tongzhi, Guangxu, the Japanese colonial period, and after the Retrocession of Taiwan. In the 74th year of the Republic of China (1985), Ciyou Temple was designated a Class III historic monument in the Taiwan-Fujian region. This temple is also mentioned in 'A General History of Taiwan'. Originally, it was just an inconspicuous small temple, but with the development of Xinzhuang, it became a center of faith and was subsequently rebuilt into a sizable Tianhou Temple.
