Li Hsueh Tang Great Academy, also known as Oxford College, was completed in 1882. It served as a base for the church at the time to train personnel for missionary work, medical services, education, and other fields. To commemorate the support from his compatriots, George Mackay named it after his hometown county, 'Oxford', signifying a deep sense of gratitude and remembrance of his origins. Between 1872 and 1880, Dr. Mackay conducted open-air teaching, preaching by roadsides, under banyan trees, by streams, or by the sea. Realizing the importance of establishing a school, he raised funds during his return to Canada in 1880. Upon his return to Tamsui, he commenced the construction of the school.
