Shimen Arch

Shimen Arch, prominently located on Provincial Highway 2 along the coast, is a significant landmark in New Taipei City's Shimen District. The district's name itself originates from this very rock formation. Legend has it that during the Japanese colonial era, the unique sea-eroded landform of Shimen Arch greatly impressed the Japanese, who then named the area 'Shimen Village'. This name later became the local township name and has been used continuously to this day.
