The original site was initially the 'Takasago Ironworks Co., Ltd.' (Takasago Casting Co., Ltd.), invested by the Gu family of Lukang in 1917 during the Japanese colonial period. Later, Gu Yan Bixia (wife of Gu Yuefu), daughter-in-law of Gu Xianrong, was responsible for the factory's operations. After the war, the Nationalist government took over, and the factory was forcibly shut down due to Gu Yan Bixia's alleged involvement in collaborating with rebels. Subsequently, it was repurposed by the Ministry of National Defense's Security Bureau and served as a crucial interrogation prison for political prisoners during the early White Terror period of the 1950s.
