Kinmachi Japanese Dormitory Cluster

The Kinmachi Japanese Dormitory Cluster is a group of middle-class official residences built in Kinmachi, Taipei City, during the Japanese colonial period in Taiwan, approximately during the Showa era. The Japanese dormitories in Kinmachi belonged to the staff dormitories of the Forestry Section, Bureau of Productive Industries, Office of the Governor-General of Taiwan, and were known as “Kinmachi Rokujō-dōri” (Kinmachi Sixth Street) at the time. The Kinmachi Japanese Dormitory Cluster is located in the Daan District of Taipei City, within the area encompassing Jinhua Street Nos. 84 and 86, Jinhua Street No. 90, Lane 61, Section 2, Hangzhou South Road Nos. 33 and 35, Lane 61, Section 2, Hangzhou South Road Nos. 37 and 39, Lane 61, Section 2, Hangzhou South Road No. 43, and Lane 61, Section 2, Hangzhou South Road Nos. 49 and 51. The entire complex is arranged in a north-south orientation, forming a large and well-preserved cluster. It has been registered as a “Taipei City Historic Building” in accordance with the Cultural Heritage Preservation Act. The Kinmachi Japanese Dormitory Cluster features a Japanese residential style spatial layout. Its exterior is characterized by woven bamboo and mud walls covered with weatherboards, wooden truss roofs, and Japanese black tiles.
