Hexing Coal Mine

Hexing Coal Mine is a hidden disused old mine pit located next to Taipei Cihuitang Temple and adjacent to Jiupi Creek. In its early days, extensive coal slag was piled up due to mining, making the geological conditions relatively fragile. Later, remediation efforts, combined with the old mining area by Jiupi Creek, transformed the entire environment. By integrating the local natural landscape with the unique culture of the mine, it has become a regional highlight, offering a new leisure and recreation destination. Upon entering the park, visitors can follow the brick-red paving and the mine cart track motif into the 'Tunnel of Time.' Along the way, one can admire realistic depictions of mine carts exiting the pit and a ceramic mural titled 'The Life of Coal,' illustrating coal's journey from formation to finished products. At the tunnel's end, a 'Spiral Staircase to Heaven' is installed, and if you're lucky, you might spot many bats hanging upside down and resting at the old mine's slag outlet. Walking along the track-themed pathway, visitors can immerse themselves in the local history and culture, as if transported back to the Japanese colonial period. The interpretive facilities and imagery related to coal mining along the route make the scenes of yesteryear feel remarkably vivid. It is recommended to visit Hexing Coal Mine on weekends to experience the unique charm and character of Xinyi District's old mining area.
