Liberty Lane and Nylon Cheng Memorial Museum

To highlight Taiwan's democratic values and freedom of speech, on June 19, 2012, the Taipei City Government Council approved installing a sign for "Liberty Lane" in the alleyway located at Lane 3, Alley 106, Section 3, Minquan East Road, Taipei City — the very alley where Mr. Nylon Cheng self-immolated in an act to fight for freedom of speech. Taipei Mayor Hau Lung-pin officially unveiled the "Liberty Lane" sign on August 21, 2012. The Nylon Cheng Memorial Museum within "Liberty Lane" is the original site of the "Freedom Era Weekly" magazine office. At the museum's entrance, there is a bronze statue and a large photograph of Nylon Cheng. Within the solemn space, commemorative artifacts such as Nylon Cheng's personal belongings and manuscripts, related event photos, and publications from the "Freedom Era Magazine" at the time are preserved. Currently, visits to the museum can be reserved. Through watching the Nylon Cheng documentary and guided tours with explanations, visitors can gain a deeper understanding of the sacrifices and contributions made by this democratic fighter for Taiwan's freedom of speech. When citizens or tourists visit this place, in addition to paying tribute to the spirit of those who came before, they can also feel the Taipei City Government's intention to fully protect the precious asset of freedom of speech.
