Neigou Stream Ecological Trail

Neigou Stream is a tributary of the Keelung River, with a total length of approximately 5.5 kilometers and a basin area of about 7 square kilometers. With Neigou Stream serving as the boundary, Taipei City lies to the west and New Taipei City to the east. It's a great place for residents of the Donghu area to stroll, relax, and chat, as well as the best spot in Donghu to connect with nature. Starting in 2013 (ROC year 102), a comprehensive landscape renovation was carried out in the middle section of Neigou Stream in Donghu. This extended the riverside promenade from the upstream section for nearly 1 kilometer. Through the construction of scenic bridges and waterside trails, it connected the previously separated walking paths of Taipei and New Taipei Cities on both sides of Neigou Stream. While clearing accumulated sediment, the project also restored the Wufenpi aquatic environment, created ecological habitats of varying depths, and established an eco-educational space where people can connect with mountains, water, and nature day and night, offering opportunities for lingering and experiencing. This aims to enhance residents' willingness to visit and use the area, leading to greater awareness, understanding, and collective conservation, and allowing cherished memories held by local elders to be revived. Four Key Aspects: 1. Unique Creativity and Restoration of Past Local Natural/Cultural Living Environment: The overall engineering structure and design prioritize lightweight construction, incorporating the locally desired Jiangnan garden landscape style. Existing environmental color palettes are preferred to respect and integrate with the natural environment of Neigou Stream. The engineering structures, while considering water management and flood control, also possess aesthetic appeal. 2. Preservation of Existing Riverside Green Corridor and Opportunity for Embankment Greening: Considering the flood control function of the embankment, greening efforts are implemented where space allows on the embankment top. This enriches the creation of riverside ecosystems and encourages the spread and growth of greenery. 3. Preservation and Improvement of Riverside Habitats: Embankment safety is prioritized, but significant importance is also placed on the preservation and improvement of natural ecological aspects. The overall design adapts to existing revetment slopes and terrain. Apart from dredging, there is no excessive excavation or ecological disturbance. 4. Energy Conservation, Carbon Reduction, and Sustainable Development: Considering the need for energy conservation and carbon reduction, waterside lighting along the trail primarily uses low illumination, providing safe lighting for evening strolls. Key scenic bridges connecting the two cities are designed with accent lighting, creating an image of twinkling stars along the waterfront.
