Jingmei Jiying Temple

Jiying Temple, located on Jingmei Old Street, was originally built within Jingwei Zhuzai. It enshrines the patron deities of people from Anxi County, Quanzhou Prefecture, Fujian Province—Baoyi Zunwang Zhang Xun and Baoyi Dafu Xu Yuan. Later, due to unfavorable feng shui, the temple was relocated and rebuilt on Jingwei Street's lower section in 1867 (the 6th year of the Tongzhi reign), which is its current site. Four hundred years ago, people from Anxi immigrated to Taipei. As most of them were tea farmers, they chose Wenshan, a humid hilly area, to cultivate tea. They also brought their native protective deities, such as Baoyi Zunwang, Baoyi Dafu, and Qingshui Zushi. At that time, the Anxi people mainly comprised three major surnames: Gao, Zhang, and Lin. As time progressed, the population gradually increased, and the cultivated land expanded from Jingmei to Muzha, Shenkeng, Shiding, and other areas. Naturally, more and more people worshipped the native deities of Anxi County. Consequently, Jiying Temple was expanded into three temples, with the Gao Clan's Jiying Temple within Jingmei Market being one of them. This place embodies the historical charm of Jingmei Old Street and is also a Level 3 historic monument. Its exterior and interior are very solemn, featuring numerous wall decorations and exquisite stone carvings. Furthermore, the corridors exude a beautiful wooden aesthetic. The wooden windows and structures are imbued with an ancient atmosphere, blending seamlessly with Jingmei Old Street.
