Zhinan Temple is located at No. 115, Wanshou Road, Wenshan District, Taipei City, at the foot of Zhinan Mountain in Muzha, with an elevation of 285 meters. It was founded in the 16th year of Emperor Guangxu of the Qing Dynasty (1890 AD) when Wang Binlin, the magistrate of Tamsui, brought a branch spirit from Yongle Palace in Shanxi to Taiwan. The temple complex covers tens of hectares, with ancient trees reaching skyward and dense foliage providing shade. The entire complex comprises five main halls: Chunyang Treasure Hall, Lingxiao Treasure Hall, Daxiong Treasure Hall, Dacheng Treasure Hall, and Dizangwang Treasure Hall. Including the annexed halls of Taisui Hall, Yuhuang Hall, Sanqing Hall, Doumu Hall, Shanxi Shengzun Treasure Hall, and Yuantong Treasure Hall, there are over ten halls in total. All are built into the mountainside, grand and solemn, mostly constructed with sturdy stone and covered with bronze tiles, designed to last for a thousand years. Long corridors connect the halls, featuring pavilions, ponds, and terraces. Flowers bloom year-round, the air is fresh, and the scenery is utterly captivating. It is Taiwan's most renowned Taoist "Jungle" (a term for a large temple complex), revered as the "Foremost Spiritual Mountain under Heaven." Due to its frequent organization of various large-scale religious activities and participation in international Taoist promotion, its reputation has spread far and wide, making it a world-class tourist attraction. Zhinan Temple primarily venerates Patriarch Chunyang, Lü Dongbin. His formal Taoist title is "Emperor Fuyou," but he is commonly known among the populace as "Xian Gong" (Immortal Lord) or "Lü Zu" (Patriarch Lü). Lü Zu lived during the Tang Dynasty. He was well-read, passed the imperial examination to become a *jinshi*, and served as a county magistrate. Due to his devout pursuit of Tao, he encountered Patriarch Zhengyang, Immortal Zhongli Quan, who enlightened him through the "Yellow Millet Dream," tested him by turning stone into gold, and imparted the spiritual method, eventually leading him to achieve the Great Tao and join the ranks of immortals. However, having made the grand vow to "save all sentient beings," he frequently manifests among the people to "aid the world, save people, relieve suffering, and dispel misfortunes." He is a Taoist deity who left behind many miracles and anecdotes. Dedicated shrines and temples for his veneration can be found across the country, and Zhinan Temple is the most beloved "Xian Gong temple" for visitors. With the opening of the Maokong Gondola, transportation has become even more convenient, and visitors are welcome at any time. **Architectural Features** Zhinan Temple's buildings primarily use nanmu wood, bluestone, and bronze tiles as main materials, integrating Northern Palace style, traditional Minnan (Southern Fujian) style, and Buddhist design characteristics. Among them, the Chunyang Treasure Hall is a representative late-period work of Taiwan's traditional master Chen Ying-bin. The Lingxiao Treasure Hall is the tallest temple building in Taiwan, with its roof ridge adorned with celestial clouds and mythical beasts, intricately carved dragons, and phoenixes, presenting a solemn and magnificent appearance. The Daxiong Treasure Hall's shape, resembling a Buddha's head, is particularly unique. The Dizangwang Treasure Hall features solemn religious statues and is surrounded by eighteen arhats, offering beautiful scenery. (Content source: Wenshan District Office, Taipei City)
