Visitor Essentials

The Hongdanshan Trail is easily accessible, with the trailhead conveniently reachable by train or bus. The path is flat and comfortable, making it a popular destination for many to enjoy on holidays. The trail boasts rich natural landscapes and historical relics. Along the way, visitors can find ancient temples, Buddhist caves, and picturesque views where mountains, forests, and the sea intertwine. There are also several pavilions and small mountain lodges for resting. The Hongdanshan Trail is divided into temple routes, ecological routes, and hiking routes, allowing visitors to choose based on their preferences and physical fitness. It is highly suitable for families of all ages to climb Hongdanshan together. Hongdanshan is one of Taiwan's "Little Hundred Mountains." Along the trail, a variety of plants such as cherry blossoms, azaleas, osmanthus, and maple trees are planted, providing dense shade, earning it the moniker 'Keelung's Yangmingshan'. Additionally, the historically significant relic 'Baoming Temple's Ancient City Gate' is preserved along the trail. Upon reaching the summit, the view is majestic and expansive, offering a magnificent panoramic vista of Keelung City, Keelung Harbor, Keelung Mountain, Keelung Islet, and Keelung River – collectively known as the 'Five Keelungs'. After exploring Hongdanshan, consider stopping by the nearby 'Ren'ai Market' or 'Keelung Miaokou (Temple Mouth) Night Market'. Both places offer a taste of Keelung's local specialties and a variety of unique snacks.
