– Introduction to the Attraction – The Longgang Trail is located on the back mountain of National Taiwan Ocean University, a tranquil path connecting the city and the mountains. This winding concrete trail, built along the hillside, is lush on both sides with constant sounds of insects and birds. The air carries a faint fragrance of soil and plants, making it a trail that combines scenic views, natural ecology, and hiking. – Attraction Features – The Longgang Trail has a moderate incline, featuring both stairs and paved paths, making it easily manageable even for beginners new to hiking. As you ascend the stairs, the beautiful mountain and sea views of Keelung gradually unfold before your eyes. The distant Keelung Harbor and the rolling mountains are breathtaking. After reaching the summit, from the pavilion, you can overlook Heping Island and Badouzi Fishing Port. Furthermore, the Longgang Trail boasts a rich ecosystem. During the firefly season in early summer each year, you can spot fireflies twinkling like stars in the dark. You can also find various protected or endemic species of frogs and butterflies, as well as low-altitude vegetation formed by over 300 plant species. Whether hiking with friends or family, you'll find enjoyment and absorb plenty of phytoncides. It's truly a hidden ecological gem in Keelung that photography and nature enthusiasts shouldn't miss. – Recommended Activities – It's recommended to visit during firefly season. Before you go, check the schedule of firefly season events and register for a free ecological guided tour through National Taiwan Ocean University's Ecological Interpretation Group (IG: ntou_firefly). Alternatively, on a clear day, prepare plenty of water, snacks, and comfortable, non-slip shoes to hike up and enjoy the beautiful views of Keelung. – Nearby Recommendations – Adjacent to the Longgang Trail is Mount Gangziliao, one of Taiwan's 'Little Hundred Peaks,' where you can also visit the national historic site, Gangziliao Fort. It's recommended to set aside half a day to explore Keelung's unique history and ecology, embarking on a wonderful journey where nature and history converge.
