Attraction Introduction: The Nuandong Old Trail, located in Keelung City, is also known as Shifen Old Trail. It is a mountain path connecting Nuannuan and Pingxi, and was the Central Route of the historic Danlan Old Trail. With a history of two hundred years, the Danlan Old Trail originated during the Qing Dynasty, forming a dense network that connected the Taipei Basin and Yilan Plain. In the past, it served as a bustling thoroughfare for transporting tea, camphor, daily necessities, and for people's travels. Attraction Features: The Danlan Old Trail, traversing mountains and seas, connects Keelung, New Taipei, and Yilan, and is also a path that journeys through history and cultural heritage. Walking on the trail, one can not only feel the footsteps of tea merchants and travelers from a century ago but also enjoy views of valleys, tea plantations, and mountain forests along the way. The Danlan Old Trail is most widely known for its three main routes: the Northern Route, 'Guandao' (Official Road), historically used for military patrols and delivering official documents and mail; the Central Route, 'Mindao' (People's Road), along which one can see relics of early settlers' farming lives and temples like stone-built Tudigong (Earth God) shrines; and the Southern Route, 'Chadao' (Tea Road), which is deeply connected to the tea trade. The starting points of the Central and Northern Routes are both in Nuannuan, Keelung. Recommended Activities: The Danlan Old Trail offers diverse routes, allowing you to choose different sections based on your physical condition. Whether it's a leisurely hike or tackling more challenging routes, you can fully enjoy the magnificent mountain and sea scenery. It is recommended to enter the old trail from Nuandong Gorge, where you'll find many lush green mountain and forest landscapes along the way. Don't forget to bring your camera to capture the beautiful natural scenery and precious flora and fauna. Remember to start in the morning to avoid the high afternoon temperatures for a more comfortable hiking trip! Nearby Recommendations: After visiting the Danlan Old Trail, if you still have energy, it is also recommended to visit the Laoliaokeng Mining and Ecological Park. Here you can explore century-old coal mine ruins and tea plantations, learning about the history of coal mining and the rich ecology.
