Chenghuang Temple

-Attraction Introduction- The Keelung Chenghuang Temple, also known as the "Keelung Hukou Chenghuang Temple," is located on Zhongyi Road in the bustling Ren'ai District. Built in the 18th year of Jiaqing (1818), the Chenghuang Temple has a history of over two centuries and is one of the three major temples in the city. Despite numerous renovations, the temple has retained its original appearance. The main deity worshipped in the main hall, Lord Chenghuang, is believed to be 'Bao Rong,' a magistrate of Keelung Prefecture during the Qing Dynasty, symbolizing integrity and guardianship. The temple houses a clay statue of Lord Chenghuang with a powdered face and several wooden statues of Lord Chenghuang with black faces. On either side are enshrined the Civil and Military Judges, the Six Department Officials, and the Six Generals. The temple structure has never been damaged and remains perfectly preserved, even through periods of war, making it regarded by locals as a symbol of divine power. To this day, it enjoys thriving incense offerings, continuously protecting Keelung Port and its residents. -Attraction Features- The temple is situated in the city facing the sea, featuring a typical three-hall layout. The rear hall is two stories high, exuding a majestic atmosphere. Every year, the "Birthday of Lord Chenghuang" on the third day of the third lunar month and the annual "Chenghuang Cultural Festival" are lively events, attracting large crowds of worshippers and making them important religious and cultural activities in Keelung. The hall also enshrines multiple Civil and Military Gods of Wealth, often attracting people who come to pray for smooth job searches, academic progress, and business prosperity. -Recommended Activities- It is recommended to visit during the day to pray for peace and good fortune. Alternatively, you can admire the architectural details and the stone and wood carving craftsmanship of the temple.
