-Overview- Keelung Juexiu Temple (also known as Siaochuantou Laoye Temple) is a temple that has accompanied the residents of Keelung's Siaochuantou area as they grew up, witnessing the history and stories of Keelung Harbor. The original structure was built in 1875. Although it was destroyed by the ravages of war, it was rebuilt in the 1950s and gradually became a spiritual center for local residents. It is also one of Keelung's four major temples, deeply revered by its devotees. -Highlights- Keelung Juexiu Temple primarily worships Marshal Tiandu and Sakyamuni Buddha. Legend has it that Marshal Tiandu was Lei Haiqing, a music official during the Tang Dynasty, who was not only brave in battle but also highly accomplished in music and drama. Many performing artists visit the temple to pray for successful performances. It is said that Marshal Tiandu was saved by crabs when he was young, which is why crabs are forbidden as offerings during worship. This unique taboo adds a mysterious touch to the temple.
