Martyrs' Shrine

About the Attraction: The Keelung Martyrs' Shrine is located on the mountainside of Zhongzheng Park. Its original site was the 'Keelung Shrine' built during the Japanese colonial period. After Taiwan's retrocession, to erase memories of the Japanese era, it was transformed into a Martyrs' Shrine commemorating national heroes and martyrs. The shrine adopts a Chinese palace architectural style, featuring soaring eaves, upturned corners, and solemn, eye-catching red beams and pillars. Standing amidst lush mountains and modern buildings, its atmosphere is solemn yet not heavy, making it a place that embodies both historical and spiritual significance. Attraction Features: The shrine enshrines soldiers, police, and firefighters who sacrificed their lives for the nation, as well as heroes who rose up to protect their homes in different eras. Their bravery and dedication are honored within this hall. On important festivals such as Qingming Festival and Double Ten Day, solemn ceremonies are held here by both official and private sectors to pay tribute to the ancestors through rituals. The red silhouette of the Martyrs' Shrine is nestled between verdant mountains and the urban jungle, appearing particularly striking amidst the tree shadows when viewed from afar. As one slowly approaches, a sense of solemn respect naturally arises. Ascending the steps, each stone stair seems to become a passage for dialogue with history, guiding visitors step by step into past memories. Walking through, there's no need for words; simply use your feet and spirit to quietly feel the weight of history. Recommended Itinerary: The Martyrs' Shrine is located within Zhongzheng Park. A half-day trip is recommended, starting from the Xiner Air-raid Shelter. Take the elevator or ascend the stairs of the Zhongzheng Park archway to reach the Fan-shaped Plaza. The stairs on the right lead to the Martyrs' Shrine. After your visit, it is suggested to follow the mountain trail on the left to Keelung Tower, the Keelung Ghost Festival Cultural Museum (Zhu Pu Altar), and Zhongzheng Park. In this mountainous area, you can both overlook the Keelung cityscape and enjoy a tranquil and serene atmosphere.
