1949 Taiping Steamer Memorial Park

On January 27, 1949, the 'Taiping Steamer,' carrying nearly a thousand people, departed from Shanghai for Keelung. For these passengers, Taiwan was 'the other shore of refuge.' Tragically, it collided with a cargo ship en route and sank, becoming a major tragedy in Taiwan's immigration history. To commemorate this major maritime disaster, future generations erected a memorial. Its inscription, facing the sea, also expresses hopes for peace and the future.
