Hualien Cultural and Creative Industries Park

The former Hualien Distillery, located on Zhonghua Road in Hualien City, was originally the "Hualien Sake Brewery of the Monopoly Bureau, Hualien Port Branch, Taiwan Governor-General's Office." It primarily produced red wine and rice wine until 1988 (ROC year 77) when the distillery relocated, bringing an end to over sixty years of winemaking history at the old site. It was later taken over by the Council for Cultural Affairs (now Ministry of Culture) and, with private investment, was renovated and put into operation, becoming the current "Hualien Cultural and Creative Industries Park." The goal is to allow the historical heritage of the old distillery to continue brewing a rich blend of culture and creativity. The Hualien Cultural and Creative Industries Park is one of Taiwan's five major cultural and creative parks. The park boasts a vast area, and its former brewery buildings still stand. The unpretentious concrete structures and Japanese cypress wood, after years of quiet dormancy, now exude even more charm and are a must-photograph spot for visitors. The factory buildings within the park have been transformed into art spaces, including exhibition halls, small theaters, warehouses, and offices. Everywhere you look, there's a blend of nostalgic charm and modern aesthetics, making it a venue for many important cultural and artistic events in Hualien today. Beyond hosting such events, the Hualien Cultural and Creative Industries Park also prioritizes promoting local cultural and creative industries. The park features many small shops brimming with contemporary lifestyle elements, with many spaces being symbiotic areas where different shops merge. Markets are also held periodically on weekends, making it Hualien's most vibrant hub for cultural and creative activities.
