Mataian Old House

The Mataian Old House was built in the 13th year of the Republic of China (1924). It is the most completely preserved traditional Amis wooden old house in Hualien County. All its pillars and beams were sourced from Masixi Mountain, and even today, one can still smell the faint aroma of cypress wood. Throughout its decorations, one can appreciate the traditional Amis architectural techniques and the wisdom of their ancestors, with exquisite carvings revealing a rich indigenous character.
