Liyu Lake

Liyu Lake is the largest inland lake in eastern Taiwan. Every summer, the 'Red-faced Duck' family quietly swims here, accompanying visitors of all ages to enjoy a joyful summer vacation. Due to headward erosion, river captures occurred between the Hehe Stream and Baibao Stream, and between the Lao Stream and Baibao Stream. This led to a change in the flow direction of the Lao Stream and a sharp decrease in the water volume of the ancient Tonglan Stream. Additionally, the collapse and sedimentation of the Wenlan Stream alluvial fan on the north side of Liyu Lake blocked its outlet and caused the emergence of the Lao Stream's underground flow, forming a barrier lake, which is today's Liyu Lake. Liyu Lake is a popular destination where visitors can enjoy leisurely boat rides, cycle around the lake, or stroll along the waterfront. The waterfront recreational area on the west side of the lake offers various water activities and facilities, suitable for the whole family to relax and enjoy the scenery; a dedicated cycling path around the lake, approximately 5 kilometers long, allows cyclists to enjoy the pleasant lake and mountain views by bike; and on Liyu Mountain, which stands at an elevation of 601 meters, there are several forest trails, perfect for forest bathing, birdwatching, flower viewing, and scenic hikes.
