Mataan Wetland Ecological Park

Mataan Wetland is a lush and vibrant natural paradise. The Fudeng Stream, winding from south to north through the Mataan Wetland, nourishes the rich ecosystem of this marsh. Cycling along the babbling brooks, you can discover traces of fish, shrimp, shellfish, and snails in any water channel, teeming with vibrant life. The Amis people developed the "Palakaw" fishing method in this wetland. Using natural materials such as bamboo, tree ferns, and Lagerstroemia branches, they create a three-layered structure and place it in the stream. This provides a space for fish and shrimp to forage and inhabit, and also makes it easier to catch them. The Palakaw fishing method is not about large-scale, one-time catching. It allows the ecosystem to thrive continuously, demonstrating respect for nature. After appreciating the ecology, you can also visit the adjacent Mataan Cultural Museum to admire the vibrant indigenous wood carvings. Alternatively, cycling leisurely along the T-shaped wooden boardwalk, you can savor the surrounding lush green scenery. The entire trip is an authentic ecological journey!
