Niushan Huting

Niushan is situated between Shueilian, Fanbushiaokeng, and Jik崎, making it one of the five natural protected areas along the Hualien-Taitung coast. The unique winding patterns of Niushan Nose also serve as an excellent geological teaching site. Historically, Niushan was a grazing and farming land for the Amis people, who called it 'Huting.' Shueilian, due to its abundant water sources, was home to many 'leeches,' leading the Amis people to call it 'Ciwdiyan,' meaning 'abundant in leeches.' Han people later adopted the homophonic name 'Shueilian.' Verdant hills embrace a wide river valley basin, with the Shueilian River meandering through. This community is a blend of diverse ethnic groups, rich in natural resources, unique geological landscapes, diverse flora and fauna, and indigenous culture, all contributing to its valuable tourism assets. From the park, looking towards the coastline, one sees a magnificent bay cape extending into the deep blue sea. Annually, the ocean currents along the Shueilian coast engage in a dynamic tug-of-war with the rivers flowing into the sea. The beach itself transforms with the seasons and weather, successively covered by gravel, fine sand, and driftwood, earning it the distinctive name 'skin-changing beach.' Transportation methods: ● Public Transport: Take Hualien Bus (Coastal Line via Provincial Highway 11) - routes 1127, 1140, 1145 - and alight at Niushan Station. ● Self-driving: Take Provincial Highway 9, connect to Provincial Highway 11 (Coastal Highway), and drive along to reach Niushan Huting.
