Changhong Bridge Recreation Area

The elegant arched structure of Changhong Bridge spans both banks at the mouth of the Xiuguluan River, creating a beautiful rainbow-like silhouette where mountains meet the sea. It has become a renowned photo landmark on the East Coast and also serves as the endpoint for rafting adventures, where tired yet satisfied rafts dock. Stroll along the riverside path, watch waterbirds gracefully forage along the riverbanks, see bicycles come and go, and observe how the surrounding flora changes with the seasons. If you're tired, consider stopping at the nearby "New Pacific No. 1 Shop" for a rest, enjoy an afternoon tea, and spend some leisurely time. The Xiuguluan River, approximately 104 kilometers long, is the largest river in eastern Taiwan and the only one that cuts through the Coastal Mountain Range. Located at the mouth of the Xiuguluan River, connecting Gangkou Village to the north and Jingpu Village to the south, are two "Changhong Bridges" – an old one and a new one. The Old Changhong Bridge was built in 1969. Due to rapidly increasing traffic volume and its inadequacy, the "New Changhong Bridge" was constructed in 2006. The vibrant, striking red bridge body spans across the green mountains and clear waters, looking quite conspicuous. It offers different views from various distances. The New Changhong Bridge's deck is specially designed with separate lanes for fast and slow vehicles, as well as bicycle paths and sidewalks, allowing visitors to safely admire the mouth of the Xiuguluan River from the bridge. The Old Changhong Bridge is now closed to vehicles and has been converted into a pedestrian-only path. There are pavilions for visitors to rest on both the north and south sides. Here, one can stroll and appreciate the grandeur of the New Changhong Bridge. Its white structure appears exceptionally fresh and charming amidst the lush green mountain scenery. Standing on the bridge deck and taking in the vast expanse of sea and sky is truly refreshing.
