Shitiping Recreational Area

Shitiping, located near Shimen, is an excellent spot for diving and rock fishing. It features a kilometer-long stretch of strange and unique rock formations, more than two layers of marine abrasion platforms, and uplifted coral reefs visible everywhere. The unique pot-hole geology is noteworthy, with various marine plants like screwpines, cacti, and beach morning glories growing abundantly on the rocks, creating a rich and diverse landscape. It has currently been designated as a scenic area, providing visitors with comprehensive recreational facilities such as a large parking lot, seaside trails, and a camping area. Shitiping is located at the southern end of Shiti Bay in Fengbin Township, Hualien County. The entire area is a vast coastal terrace where marine erosion landforms are highly developed. Marine abrasion platforms, uplifted coral reefs, sea grooves, and sea cliffs are visible everywhere, with the pot-hole landscape being particularly renowned as the best in Taiwan. The Shitiping coast boasts rich coral reefs and tropical fish populations. Tide pools formed by the intertidal zone and potholes are home to a wide variety of marine life, including seaweeds, fish, shrimp, and shellfish, making Shitiping an excellent place for observing the rich intertidal ecology and for diving. Visitors can observe the area firsthand by following the scenic area's circular trail, or ascend the 17-meter-high monoclinal mountain to not only take in Shitiping's geological landscape but also enjoy panoramic views of the vast and magnificent Pacific Ocean. For those wishing to gaze at a sky full of stars at night, embrace the magnificent Pacific, and be the first to witness the sunrise, Shitiping Campground is definitely the most popular camping area. The campground is well-equipped, offering options for overnight stays. Visitors can stroll under the moonlight, listen to the waves while stargazing, and enjoy a wonderful experience of becoming one with nature.
