Hualien Port Waterfront Recreation Area

The Hualien Port Waterfront Recreation Area was originally a group of warehouses belonging to the Hualien Port Bureau, which have since been redeveloped into exhibition venues such as the Venus Gallery. Despite its name, the Waterfront Recreation Area is not a place for swimming or water activities; the name can indeed be misleading. Inside, you can still see traces of old railway tracks, and you can get closer to the sea and the ships (perhaps this is the true meaning of 'water-friendly'). Nearby, you'll also find the Hualien Port Scenic Bridge and the old Hualien Port Station. This spacious area allows you to watch ships entering and leaving the port, and it's also suitable for strolling, exercising, or cycling. From the adjacent Scenic Bridge, you can observe train shunting at the nearby Hualien Port Station, overlook the Pacific Ocean, and it's an excellent spot for watching the sunrise. Looking south towards the mouth of the Hualien River, it offers a superb panoramic view of the entire Hualien Port. Next to the bridge, there's a wooden boardwalk for pedestrians to stroll and enjoy the view, equipped with ramps. The entrance to the Scenic Bridge is approximately 90 cm wide, allowing wheelchair access. To the left of the roundabout observation deck, you can access the 'Waterfront Recreation Area,' but be aware that there are road barriers. The ramp is long and steep; if you wish to visit, it's recommended to enter by car via another entrance, which will take you past the old Hualien Port Station and over a level crossing. With fresh air, it is a relaxing and comfortable recreational spot.
