Hualien Environmental Park is located next to Qilaibi Lighthouse, on the southern coast of Qixingtan. In its early years, it was managed by the Hualien City Office and was originally a malodorous landfill. After its closure in 1996, it was re-vegetated and transformed into an environmental park. A commemorative sign explains the process of its transformation. Today, Hualien Environmental Park has not only returned to nature, offering beautiful panoramic views where the sea meets the sky, but it also bears the vital responsibility of marine and aquatic ecological conservation. Information boards explain how the local government has implemented various environmental measures, planting diverse tree species within the area, and working tirelessly to help this pristine land regain its vitality. Situated at the tip of a prominent coastal headland near the Qilaibi Lighthouse, Hualien Environmental Park offers expansive views and is the best location to observe the lighthouse. The distant scenery of Taroko National Park and the Central Mountain Range is even more magnificent; visitors might want to try out their panoramic camera here. Although the surrounding environment might appear somewhat wild, it is actually a hidden gem in Hualien City for enjoying the azure sea and sky. Undisturbed by large crowds of tourists, it attracts many experienced surfers who come to fully enjoy Hualien's tranquility and leisure. With comprehensive guided tours and explanations, the public can gain a deeper understanding of the importance and achievements of current environmental protection and pollution prevention efforts.
