The Chilaibi Lighthouse, built in 1931, is located on the Chilaibi Cape at the northern end of Hualien Port. It was originally a white square lighthouse. During World War II, it was bombed by American aircraft, suffering severe damage and ceasing to emit light. In 1963 (the 52nd year of the Republic of China), to coincide with the opening of Hualien Port as an international port, the customs office rebuilt a white, pentagonal concrete lighthouse near the original site. This is the only pentagonal reinforced concrete lighthouse in Taiwan, and it is currently not open to visitors. A nearby path leads to the Chilaibi Lighthouse observation deck, which offers views comparable to those seen from the lighthouse itself. To view the exterior of the lighthouse, you can visit the nearby Hualien Environmental Park.
