48 Highlands Lookout

48 Highlands, also known as Qilai Bi or Meilun Bi, is located on elevated ground along the Qixingtan coast. From this high vantage point with its expansive views, gazing at the unique Hualien-Taitung coastline is truly refreshing and uplifting. While 48 Highlands boasts the best views, its geology is relatively unstable, and the coastal areas are prone to landslides. Therefore, the 48 Highlands Lookout was specially constructed, not only to offer excellent panoramic views but also to ensure the safety of visitors. The 48 Highlands Military Tunnel, located near the lookout, has recently completed renovations and is now open for visitors. This tunnel, hidden underground, once served as a strategic vantage point for monitoring enemies at sea during wartime. Its original design is now preserved, allowing visitors to admire the beautiful Pacific Ocean. Due to limited visitor numbers, guided tours require advance booking.
