Heren Beach, which is 2 kilometers long, is located in the northern part of Xiulin Township, Hualien County. Due to its proximity to the relatively short Liangli Stream and the steep gradient of the upstream riverbed, gravel carried by the stream is rapidly washed down to the estuary and accumulates, forming the pebble beach landscape seen today in the Heren area. Next to the Heren boundary monument of the national park on the Suhua Highway is the entrance to the Heren Trail (the trail and its entrance are currently damaged due to a typhoon). The trail is approximately 165 meters long, and after exiting the trail and walking through a small patch of woods, you can reach Heren Beach. The first thing that catches the eye are the large and small rocks on the beach, which rolled down from the cliff faces to the sea due to landslides. Fragments of marble and gneiss, eroded by the Heren Stream to the north, are carried ashore by the waves and have accumulated over the years to form a vast expanse of clean, smooth pebble beach.
