Visitor Essentials

Ruisui Hot Spring boasts a very unique and rare water quality, being Taiwan's only carbonate spring rich in iron and barium. When the iron comes into contact with air and oxidizes, it forms a yellowish, turbid crystalline substance on the water's surface with a slight iron rust smell, known as "Yunohana" or "Hot Spring Flowers." The hot spring water is golden yellow, comparable to Arima Onsen near Kobe, Japan. It was once called the "Golden Hot Spring" by the Japanese during the Japanese colonial period, and today, Japanese tourists who love hot springs flock to it. Ruisui Hot Spring water is alkaline, and local residents widely believe that couples who bathe in this weakly alkaline hot spring have a higher chance of giving birth to boys, earning it the beautiful name "Spring of Giving Birth to Boys." Hualien's hot springs are well-known, and it's a great place to soak in the Huatung Valley. Ruisui Hot Spring is Taiwan's only "Carbonate Spring," also known as a "Hero's Spring."
