Visitor Essentials

Antong Hot Spring is located by the Antong River in Yuli Township, Hualien County. In earlier times, it was known as "Antong Hot Soak" and listed as one of the Eight Scenic Spots of Hualien. The nearly transparent spring water is a weakly alkaline "sulfate spring," containing over 15 minerals, making it a "beauty spring." We invite heroes and beauties to visit in person and write about your wonderful journey shared with Hualien. According to historical records, Antong Hot Spring was discovered by Japanese workers eight years before the Republic of China era (1904). A public bathhouse was built in the 19th year of the Republic of China (1930) and has since been continuously renovated and expanded to its current scale. With a history of over a hundred years, it is one of the "Eight Scenic Spots of Hualien." Its water quality is a "chloride sulfate spring," weakly alkaline, and is believed to promote blood circulation, alleviate gastrointestinal discomfort, soothe skin conditions, and help with women's health issues. The high spring temperature of up to 66 degrees Celsius also allows visitors to enjoy delicious hot spring eggs while soaking. During the Japanese colonial period, the Japanese government built a Japanese-style tatami bungalow entirely from cypress wood to serve as a guesthouse for the police headquarters. This building is well-preserved and intact, now listed as a historical monument by the Council for Cultural Affairs. A new two-story Western-style hot spring resort has also been built. Japanese-style landscaping can be seen throughout the hot spring area; soaking in Antong Hot Spring's outdoor pools feels like being immersed in an antique Japanese garden, offering a unique charm. The nearly transparent spring water is a weakly alkaline chloride sulfate spring, with a faint hint of hydrogen sulfide. The spring water temperature is approximately 66 degrees Celsius, and the water volume is abundant. The hot spring outcrops are distributed along the Antong River, extending for about two to three hundred meters. Submerging into the hot spring water, you can feel the smoothness on your skin, which remains soft even after leaving the water. It is traditionally believed to be effective for skin diseases, gastrointestinal ailments, women's health issues, and external injuries. In addition to visiting independently, you can also combine it with hot spring shuttle tours offered in autumn and winter. The combination of hot springs and fitness walking tours is truly exceptional for autumn.
