Huide Trail: Views of Mountains, Sea, and Trains

The Huide Trail is only 750 meters long, yet it encapsulates the stunning beauty of towering cliffs and the vast Pacific Ocean, attracting an increasing number of visitors. The trail's entrance is located at the 174.2 km mark of Provincial Highway 9, at the northern exit of the Huide Tunnel. After the Huide Tunnel opened, a section of the old Suhua Highway was repurposed into a wide, flat recreational path. A leisurely 30-minute walk offers magnificent views of the Qingshui Cliffs and the refreshing sea breeze of the Pacific. Trains Through Tunnels: A Photographer's Paradise The 1,460-meter-long Huide Tunnel is the longest tunnel on the Suhua Highway. Heading north through the tunnel exit, you'll soon see the parking lot for the rest area. It's highly recommended to leave the highway and step onto the trail for a close encounter with nature. The Huide Trail has a wide surface; originally, vehicles could drive on this section, but due to increasing visitor numbers, it has been converted into an area exclusively for pedestrians. Because the trail is flat and easy to walk, it's ideal for family outings, allowing children and elders to stroll leisurely and enjoy quality time together. The initial section of the trail is not directly by the sea. Along the mountain side of the trail are dense broadleaf forests, shading parts of the path and offering refuge from the intense and glaring sun. If you time your visit with passing trains, you can look down from the trail and watch trains on the North-Link Line traverse the Qingshui and Chongde Tunnels. This, combined with the surrounding steep mountains and distant seascape, creates a beautiful vista. Many photography enthusiasts are drawn here to await the passing trains and capture their fleeting moments. Mountain and Sea Trail: Overlooking the Pacific Continue walking to the seaside section, where a wooden observation deck offers panoramic views of the azure Pacific Ocean and the towering Qingshui Cliffs. These sheer cliffs, almost 90 degrees vertical due to long-term sea erosion, stand majestically by the curved coast. The white waves crashing on the shore contrast vividly with the blue-green Pacific, creating distinct color boundaries and rich layers. The towering mountains, deep sea, and perilous cliffs form a truly breathtaking scene. The multi-layered, steep cliffs of Qingshui connect the mountains and the sea. On the azure surface of the Pacific, you can even spot people enjoying water activities, paddling small boats that bob gently, which is quite delightful. Further along is the end of the trail, currently fenced off due to frequent rockfalls, blocking the path in front of the old Qingshui Tunnel. While strolling, notice the unique guardrails along the side, built from irregular stones. These stones were excavated during the construction of the Huide Tunnel and were repurposed to form a continuous line of guardrails, becoming a special feature of the Huide Trail. The Huide Trail allows you to take in the magnificent beauty of the sea cliffs. With its gentle slope and wide path, it's perfect for a leisurely stroll, letting you experience the boundless ocean combined with the awe-inspiring work of nature. Continuing forward to the seaside section, an observation deck provides panoramic views of the azure Pacific Ocean and the towering Qingshui Cliffs. The nearly 90-degree vertical high cliffs stand majestically by the curved coast. The white waves on the shore and the blue-green sea distinctly separate into two colors, creating rich layers.
