Xiaoma Tunnel

Located in Chenggong Township, Taitung, the Xiaoma Tunnel is a flat-land road tunnel that cuts through the magnificent Coastal Mountain Range, connecting Provincial Highway 11 and Provincial Highway 23. Having endured the Japanese colonial period and the post-war era, the tunnel has witnessed the transportation and agricultural development of the Taiyuan Basin. Approximately 230 meters long, the tunnel is only wide enough for one-way traffic. Its walls still bear the marks of its original manual excavation, and stepping inside feels like traveling back in time, returning to a bygone era.
