Visitor Essentials
The Orchid Island Weather Station, approximately 324 meters above sea level, is a building from the Japanese colonial period. It was forcibly constructed by the Taiwan Governor-General's Office, which conscripted the local Tao (formerly Yami) people on the island. During World War II, it was bombed by the Allied forces, resulting in partial damage. Bullet marks can still be seen on the walls of the main building and offices to this day. After renovation, the main building was entirely repainted white.
